Sarmizegetusa Regia in the Orastie Mountains

Sarmizegetusa Regia, the Dacian capital center

The ruins of Sarmizegetusa Regia are located in the Orăştie mountains. After approximately 1 hour of driving from the city of Orăștie, you will reach the small parking lot which can be found in a smaller valley not far from the main entrance into the Dacian capital center.

This place was the capital center of the Dacians during the Roman Empire and it was built at an altitude of 1200 meters.

After you’ve reached the ruins of Sarmizegetusa, you will see a pretty large defense wall which was the outer fortification of the Dacian capital center. After walking through the fortification walls, you will see a small valley. There are the remains of some old Dacian temples. One of the most sacred place in Sarmizegetusa Regia is at the circular sanctuary.

All the important objectives in Sarmizegetusa Regia are very close one to each other. You can easily explore the entire place in approximately 1 hour. If you plan to stay a couple of days, you will find many accommodations in the villages between Sarmizegetusa Regia and Costești.
