Parang Mountains

At the beginning of May, we made a road trip to Hotel Rusu which basically is located on the footsteps of the Parang mountains at an altitude of over 1100 meters. If you plan to visit this place then you should know that it’s only 12 km away from the city of Petrosani. Once you’ve reached to hotel, you can admire the beautiful alpine scenery which surrounds the hotel. In my opinion, this would be the perfect place to escape from the summer heat.

Also not far from here is one of the most beautiful and renowned mountain roads in Romania, the Transalpina which crosses the southern section of the Carpathian mountains.

The Chairlift to the sky slope

This is one of the two chairlifts which will take you to the sky slopes on the Parang mountains. One of the chairlifts was built right next to the Rusu hotel and the other one is located not far from this place. This shot of the mountains was taken from Cabana Rusu.

Snow on the peaks

Unfortunately that day, some clouds covered the mountain peak which was covered with snow, but I’ve managed to capture some spots where the snow is still visible.

The Jiu valley

From Hotel Rush, almost the entire Jiu valley is visible including the city of Petrosani which is almost 10 km  away from the place from where this picture was taken. In the background of this image, you can actually see the former mining town Vulcan. On the right side you can see the Retezat mountains and on the left side, there are the Valcan mountains.

Snow of the peaks of Sureanu mountains

In the distance, those mountains are the Sureanu mountains and as you can see, there are some snow spots of the peak of the mountains.

After admiring the beautiful alpine scenery we decided to drive towards our second objective which was the former Petrila coal mine.
